The city attorney may designate any staff attorney as acting city attorney in the city attorney’s absence. The acting city attorney shall have the power and authority of the city attorney and may exercise that power and authority, except that an acting city attorney may not hire or dismiss attorneys or staff without council authorization. Whenever possible, the city attorney shall notify city council in advance of any anticipated absence extending beyond five business days. [BC 1.05.025, added by Ordinance No. 4764, 6/11/19]
